Portuguese Laurel is a lovely, large, evergreen shrub whose glossy green leaves sprout from colourful red stalks. Small white, slightly fragrant flowers appear each year in early summer, they are sometimes followed by pretty red berries which eventually turn dark purple. Portuguese Laurel is an excellent hedging plant, that does well in the British climate and is very tolerate of drought and chalky soils.
